spreading some very bad rumors about Meloria Farms that is
not true and trying to ruin a person's reputation. Beware!
WOW!! Shirley really did a number on Devon. Devon was very
good to Shirley and Steve, and they really really took advantage of
Devon and her husband ( to say it nicely)!! Eventhough Devon knew
about this website, she gave them a chance! SHE IS VERY SORRY

What do you do when you help someone and they totally screw you over?
For Real, seriously screw you over in a big way. Well, in most cases, you
can't do a whole lot, and "they" know it. Shirley did. It's called being
street wise! Well, when you have a life, and they really don't, all you
can do is learn from the situation.
REMEMBER, NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED. I am
writing this to tell a story in hopes that no one else ends up in the same
situation as I did. If this helps others prevent a train wreck, then maybe
something good can come of it. There is so many stories to tell about my
experience with Shirley Graybill, that I can't list them all here. She can be
very endearing (as her new X-boss ,Jenny from Class Act Farm, had said),
but don't be taken. She does bite. In more than one way. This one story
has proof, written proof that is on this site. She beat usout of $3505.00 plus
in dental bills, trusting her, and her agreeing to pay us back weekly.
NO ONE ELSE WOULD HELP HER,
NOT EVEN HER HUSBAND.
No doctor,no loan agency, and her husband wouldn't get a job
to help with the medical bills.
READ ON, I will explain.
Shirley applied to the farm job I had listed in FLhorse.com for farm help.
The farm job description was for experienced horseperson to feed,
help with younghorses, breaking, galloping racehorses, swimming horses,
foaling and breeding help. I listed my website so the farm facilities could
be seen. The job was for pay and living accommodations which included
electricity, water and phone with no long distance onthe phone. Employee
was also issued a cell phone. The pay usually was from $350to 400 per
week depending on experience. So, it works out to be about $750.00 per
week to the employee. Pretty decent wages for no college education and
no great experience. Anyway, just wanted to let you know, that my
employees don't starve to death and they are not abused. No reason to
not pay bills etc. So, without goinginto all the garbage I went through
with Shirley and her husband Steve, I will try to make it brief.

Over the time, I may add more stories to this saga. You can't realize
how you can get sucked into such a mess. No matter how endearing
someone like Shirley can be,you have to watch out for yourself.
Lesson learned the hard way.
When I met Shirley for the first time, she came down from Ocala in
need of a job with living expenses. Sounds reasonable. I had no one at
the time working and I WAS IN DESPERATE NEED OF HELP.
That was the key!!. Never, Never hire because you are desperate.
Hang in there and keep looking. Hire temporarily if you have to
and keep looking for a quality person. Her first appearance was a
little shocking I must say. Her teeth were totally rotten to the gums!!
The only teeth left were the 3 or 4 on the bottom in the front and they
were as yellow as yellow can be. She was apparently a young girl,
late 20s early 30s. She was friendly and seemed desperate for a job.
However, the red flag did come up, she showed up at my farm
unannounced. She emailed about the job, we talked on the phone.
I told her that I was leaving for a few days and when I got
back, I would call her and set up a time for her to come down to
the farm. I had two other applicants to talk to also. BUT, she came down
early, called me when I was away, said she was staying in the area until
I got back. When she came to the farm, she mentioned that the
were out of money and really needed to take a shower etc. I FELT SORRY.
Wrong emotion. So, I told them to go into the apartment and stay
and I would see what she could do on the farm.
Long story short, she couldn't ride, but could feed and lead the young
horses. I made the mistake by settling for her to help me on the farm.
I guess at the time, I felt some help was better than nothing. I found out
that that is not true!!! By the time Shirley got done with me, it cost
more in the long run and caused moreheadache than any help
was worth.
She was always late getting out of bed, smoked constantly, and if I went
away to a show, she didn't work (my own father witnessed that and told me)
My father observed that when he was down working on the
electric for the barn and I was away. Many other employees of Gerald's
made comments about the lack of work going on at the farm when I
was away. And, when she left, the apartment was trashed and was an
absolute pig pen. So, keeping this in mind, Gerald and I both new
that she had this dental problem. She couldn't eat hardly anything.
No meat, nothing hard, food had to be soft etc. Her gums
would have terrible abcesses that would make her face swell up and
it would be painful for her. She basically stayed infected in her mouth.
She would tell me about the pain she had and how the food would get stuck
up in the holes in her jaws. She tried to get a dentist to help her and apparently
he wouldn't. She told me that her credit was bad because when she was a
teenager she didn't make her truck payments and the truck got reposessed.
She said she was not responsible as a teenager. Like she was responsible now
and this was just making it hard for her.
AGAIN, I FELT SORRY FOR HER AND SO DID GERALD. Gerald
and I would discuss this. He felt that she couldn't do a good job at work
if she felt bad all the time. We thought (bad thinking) that if she were
healthier she would be a better employee. REMEMBER, WHEN YOU
PULL THAT THORN OUT OF THETIGER'S PAW, THAT TIGER
WILL TURN AND BITE YOU HEAD OFF.
Well, I told her that we would match anything she saved toward having
her dental work done. I told her she could pay us back weekly. We
all knew that this was going to entail surgery to remove all the remaining
parts of her teeth. It was going to be expensive. She never could save enough.
She said she was catching up on her bills that she owed etc. WHATEVER!!!
I found out later, that she was buying fish tanks, and fish and rats etc.
Yes, rats! They were in the apartment. Rat shit all over the floor. And, Shirley
and Steve always had money for cigarettes and alcohol. So, after some time
passing, Gerald and I agreed to offer to pay for itand she could pay us back.
She was having such a problem with the abscesses in her mouth. The
agreement was made. I helped to find the dentist, make the appointments,
even take her there to her appointment etc. Amazingly enough, after
it was all taken care of, Shirley's attitude and work ethic never ever
changed. In fact, she got worse and even got lazier. I am lost for words.
I can't believe that someone who needed help so much would be so totally
unthankful. Amazing!!! Then, very soon after that, leave and stick US for
the bill. NOW, YOU WONDER WHY OUR DOCTORS,
AND OTHER HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS ASK HOW YOUR
GOING TO PAY BEFORE YOU EVER GET AN APPOINTMENT ETC.
PAYMENT UP FRONT. YOU WONDER WHY IT IS SO HARD FOR AN
HONEST WORKING PERSON TO GET AHEAD. ANSWER, BECAUSE
OF PEOPLE LIKE SHIRLEY GREYBILL AND HER HUSBAND STEVE.
Oh, by the way, they both have kids. I never knew
that either. They never mentioned it. Was Steve paying child support
without a job??? Was Shirley??? I can't help but to feel sorry for those kids.........
